some of my bind jobs
based on precisely one person asking, here's some fics of mine that i've formatted into easy printing! most all of these will be easily pamplet/saddleback stitched, so they're great beginner books in case you particularly like a jibblet.
hang on, what are all these words? why do you do things in this manner? (click the arrow to find out!)
- signature - the folded collection of pages. for most of these books, there'll only be one signature, so you only need to fold one collection of pages.
- duplex printing - double sided printing. it's a type of printer. if you don't have access to a duplex printer, you'll need to flip over your pages after the first half finishes up so you can get the job finished.
- pamplet/saddleback stitch - a very easy bookbinding stitch. resources linked below!
- book structure - what type of bookbinding you're doing. there are so many, and once you get acquainted with the basic ones, you can start to do some really cool ones. (nothing wrong with a collection of single pamplets, tho!)
- the why:
i mainly employ these quarter-letter sized pages because they're easy, pretty much, (except if you don't have access to US letter sized paper, oops) but are also at a decent reading size.
also, in bookbinding, one of the most important things to keep in mind is the paper grain direction. you know how wood has a grain? paper does, too! if you don't have the paper grain direction correct, ur book isn't going to open and close easily, and also it'll try to tear itself apart over time. not good!
luckily, it's pretty easy to tell what grain direction something's in. if you try to fold your paper and it gives you some resistance, you're folding against the grain. if it folds easily, that's with the grain, and that's what you want. try grabbing a piece of printer paper and folding it either way, and you'll be able to feel the difference!
with most printer paper, it's what we call long grain; that is, if you fold it "hot dog" style, that's folding it with the grain. you should definitely doublecheck your paper grain direction before committing to a print, however, to make sure that your book is in the correct direction.
- why bookbind to begin with, though?
there is nothing permanent about our digital world, especially with the times we're currently in, rife with censorship. however, if you have the physical work, it's pretty hard to have that taken away from you, and, if you employ some care with your creation, you'll have it for years and years to come.
you will need:
- a printer (single or duplex, but keep in mind duplex is easier to work with)
- printer paper (my pages only provide support for US letter pages, sorry!)
- a cover material (cardstock is cheap and easy)
- needle + thread
- a way of cutting paper evenly (this can be a paper guillotine, a ruler and sharp knife or other such impliment, or even the 'ole ruler plus edge of table technique)
- patience and a willingness to do multiple attempts of something. it still can take me over five test prints until my book comes out right!

my works that i've made into books! you should be able to simply download a pdf and print it off.
if you want me to add a fic, let me know! if it's a shorter fic, i don't mind doing it for free (plus i probably already have it lying around and haven't added it here yet lol), but multi signature fics take SO long to format that i'd probably have to charge for that, sorry!
